Fire at Berry’s

Thankfully – there weren’t many!! Weekly fire tests at 3pm on a Friday afternoon and a fire gang ready to jump into action at any moment were crucial at a factory full of dried wood. According to Ted Metcalf, Berry’s also owned a fire engine – a Coventry Climax – that sounded beautiful when it was going!! Fire notices and no smoking signs all round the building warned of the fire hazards.
